Crafts and Costumes

My concept for this project was dealing with issue of the anxiety fighting to conceal one's deepest emotions, in fear that revealing those emotions will make them seem vulnerable. Thus, they turn away from language, resorting to using body language instead.

The dress form was inspired by Origami folding, an activity I find calming. For the top I used Charmeuse, as it  looked really rich and felt so smooth. I love the weight of the fabric and made the top feel a little richer. In order to ensure that the material and joining parts did not feel scratchy to the model, I added an inner lining to the top. For the collar, I used holographic pleather sourced from Spotlight.

For the panels, in order to ensure that they did not weigh down and lose the puffy shape, I had to find fabrics that looked heavy but felt light. I decided to go with satin cause it was relatively thinner than other fabrics but still have that soft shine to it. I had to experiment with boning and using the stiffest interfacing I could find. But I still need to experiment further as the form is still strange. The parts sticking out are able to have a rotating movement with the MG996R server motor.
